A property owner or installer must apply for and obtain a CPWA permit before installing an underground lawn irrigation system and must pay the applicable permit fee.
CPWA irrigation rules effective September 1, 2024: all new construction must have metered water service before an irrigation system is installed. The connection must be made in an interior location protected from freezing, downstream of the water meter and main check valve. Systems must use a time clock capable of complying with CPWA lawn-watering restrictions.
