CPWA Near Deal with County

10/26/2009
The Clifton Park Water Authority Board of Directors voted to sign a water purchase agreement with the Saratoga County Water Authority, which would obligate the CPWA to buy 500,000 gallons of water per day starting early in 2010. The two Authorities have been in negotiations for several years, but had not been able to come to terms until now. The CPWA has always questioned the SCWA's ability to meet its financial obligations created with the construction of a water treatment plant and 28-mile pipeline. The commitment by Global Foundries to build its manufacturing facility in Malta drastically improved the outlook for the SCWA, and eased much of the CPWA's concerns. The CPWA will now move forward with its plans to build a connection to the County system. This connection should be complete by early spring. The SCWA is predicting that it will begin pumping water into its transmission system sometime in December. The purchase of County water will improve water quality for customers on the CPWA system, as the Authority will be able to eliminate some of its lesser quality sources (those with iron and hardness issues), and minimize the use of others.
